FT ArcelorMittal Boldness in Business Awards

March 18, 2019

Ocado was named the winner of the prestigious FT-ArcelorMittal Boldness in Business Awards for Technology at a ceremony at the Royal Institute of British Architects in London on March 14th.

The award was accepted by Ocado CEO, Tim Steiner, at a dinner hosted by Lionel Barber, Editor, Financial Times, and Lakshmi Mittal, CEO and Chairman of ArcelorMittal.

Our biggest innovation was not to try and have a single innovation. Our biggest innovation was to become an innovation house.”

Tim Steiner, Ocado CEO

We are particularly delighted to have won this award not only because it recognises our continuing journey as a technology business but also because it talks to the boldness that is, and always will be, at the core of being a disruptive innovator.”

Paul Clarke, Ocado CTO

It is Ocado’s bold evolution — from an online grocery delivery service to a technology company with a £1.6bn turnover that builds everything from consumer-facing websites to robot-operated depots for other food retailers — that analysts say has underpinned the group’s new-found market resilience.” FT

About the awards

The FT-ArcelorMittal Boldness in Business Awards is an initiative taken by the Financial Times and ArcelorMittal to highlight and celebrate companies and entrepreneurs who are innovative and dynamic; qualities that will make the vital difference in these challenging economic times. In the business world, boldness matters now more than ever.

The shortlist for the awards was drawn up by senior FT editors and journalists, and included candidates from Europe, North and South America, the Middle East, Africa and Asia-Pacific.
