From frozen coconut yogurt to savoury ice cream, there’s been all manner of new trends emerging in the world of frozen treats, but as the latest sales statistics from Ocado reveal, the nation still loves all things vanilla.
With temperatures set to rise at the beginning of August, today the retailer is unveiling its top five best-selling flavours list, with organic vanilla topping the charts.
But not all the classics have maintained their place in the top five. Strawberry, part of the traditional Neapolitan trio of vanilla, chocolate and strawberry, no longer features with the on-trend salted caramel now customers’ second favourite flavour after vanilla. This is followed by chocolate in third place, raspberry in fourth and mango in fifth.
Regionally, Londoners’ favourite ice cream is organic vanilla, in Wales it’s pistachio, southerners love raspberry while northerners are partial to a scoop of strawberry.
In order to celebrate the nation’s love for all things frozen, Ocado has launched an ‘Ice Cream Palour’ allowing shoppers to mix and match ice creams, fro-yo and sorbets with their favourite toppings and sauces to create the ultimate sundaes. The event will run for 10 weeks and can be found through the following link: Ocado Ice Cream Parlour
Alan Kinnear, Ice Cream Buyer at Ocado, says:
The fact that salted caramel is now our second best-selling ice cream suggests this on-trend flavour has officially made it into the mainstream, knocking the more traditional strawberry from the top five list. However, for all the changes in preference, vanilla continues to reign supreme, suggesting shoppers do still enjoy a classic.”
