New Ocado hub brings 250 new permanent jobs to Milton Keynes

August 25, 2015

Online supermarket Ocado has announced plans for a new 43,254 square foot delivery hub in Milton Keynes, creating 250 new permanent jobs.

Based in Tongwell, the fully refurbished building will be home to 111 of Ocado’s iconic vans when it opens on 11th November 2015. The opening is part of the retailer’s continued expansion, fuelled by soaring consumer demand and the boom in online grocery shopping. Ocado announced a profit of £7 million earlier this year and now serves more than 471,000 customers across the UK.

Ocado is now recruiting for 250 friendly drivers on a permanent basis to deliver shopping into customers’ homes throughout the week and during all seasons. Candidates must hold an EU or UK driving licence and share a passion for delivering award-winning customer service. Successful applicants will enjoy great benefits and a rewarding role that offers much more than a straightforward driving job.

Julie Markey, Director of HR at Ocado said:

As we continue to expand our business across the country, we’re excited to announce the opening of our newest delivery hub in Milton Keynes. The site at Tongwell is perfectly located for serving our customers who live in the Milton Keynes area and we’re now on the hunt for 200 enthusiastic, customer service focussed new drivers to join the team."

Our drivers are the face of our brand and critical to our success. Successful applicants will have a fantastic opportunity to shape a long and exciting future at Ocado. We offer all our employees the support and structure they need to progress and build a long-term career with us. In fact, many drivers who have joined our team in the past few years have now developed into managerial, marshalling or training roles.”

Christopher Andrews, a current Ocado driver commented:

I joined Ocado to make the most of my customer service skills and I take a lot of pride in each delivery I make. Since joining two years ago, I've been given various opportunities to develop my skills. In particular, I was delighted to be promoted to my role as a trainer, allowing me to use my coaching skills, which I really enjoy. I also regularly buddy up with new recruits to show them the ropes and I feel like I'm really making a difference."

Salaries at all levels are highly competitive, with premium rates paid for evening and weekend shifts. Additional benefits include 15% staff discount, pension schemes, free shares and private healthcare after qualifying service.
