Ovum recognizes Ocado Technology’s innovative work on cloud services, big data, analytics and AI during On the Radar Awards 2017 gala event
Ocado Technology announces that it has won the prestigious Ovum On the Radar 2017 award in the Cloud Services category for the Ocado Smart Platform, an end-to-end, modular and cloud-based platform designed to provide international bricks and mortar grocery retailers with a best in class solution for grocery e-commerce. During the same event, Ocado Technology was also highlighted in the Big Data, Analytics and AI category for its work on the software and systems powering Ocado.com, the world’s largest online-only supermarket.
Ovum concluded that Ocado Technology built an entirely new system, the Ocado Smart Platform, in the cloud and has been offering it as a managed service to its grocery retail partners. The project took 18 months to complete, and involved the integration of multiple public cloud providers. The Ocado Smart Platform implements a microservices-based architecture to meet any demand on a minute by minute basis.
Paul Clarke, Ocado CTO, says:
Ocado Technology is delighted to have won this industry-recognized award. Receiving acclaim from a world-renowned analyst firm such as Ovum further validates the innovative products that Ocado Technology is creating for Ocado and our retail business partners. The Ocado Smart Platform software engineering teams deserve credit for the amazing work they’ve done over the last year.”
Tim Jennings, Chief Research Officer at Ovum says:
Ovum’s On the Radar Awards recognize the best examples of harnessing technology to deliver clear business value. Each of our winners has shown technology innovation, but most importantly has applied that innovation to digital business projects that show real business outcomes, whether cost savings, improved customer experience, new or enhanced products, or reduced time to market. There is also a common thread of making life better for the individual as customer, consumer, employee or citizen, and we applaud them all as worthy winners”.
Spencer Izard, Ovum Chief Analyst, says:
With the cloud services category, we were looking for evidence of innovative sourcing models balancing the transition from traditional procurement to ‘as-a-Service’ consumption models. We were highly impressed with how the Ocado Smart Platform leveraged the cloud to deliver digital services based on scale up and down business demands during peak operating periods.”
