Online supermarket ocado.com has launched a major recruitment drive to find 1,000 permanent new UK staff before Christmas this year. The retailer’s continuing expansion and the boom in online grocery shopping has fuelled the search for permanent new team members to start immediately across the country. This includes roles at Ocado’s Customer Fulfillment Centres (CFCs) in Dordon, West Midlands, and Hatfield, Hertfordshire, as well as its service delivery hubs in Enfield, Weybridge, Wimbledon and Ruislip.

Whilst most retailers recruit for short term, temporary positions at this time of year, all new jobs being offered by Ocado are permanent roles. The new vacancies at the Dordon CFC in the West Midlands include more than 200 roles for ‘personal shoppers’ who receive, pack and load customers' orders using highly advanced technical systems that enable Ocado to provide award-winning service for customers across the UK.

Over 600 new vacancies are also being created nationwide for ‘Customer Service Team Members’ – super friendly drivers who deliver shopping into customers’ homes seven days a week. This includes over 200 roles across Enfield, Weybridge, Ruislip and Wimbledon.

Teresita (Terri) Binyon joined Ocado in 2012 and has already progressed to become development team manager, managing a team of 20 personal shoppers in Ocado’s Customer Fulfilment centre in Dordon, Warwickshire. She says: “I joined Ocado two years ago at the brand new CFC in Dordon in an entry level position as a site tester, ensuring the automated warehouse worked smoothly before it launched. I was then given the opportunity to progress into a coordinator role, and was subsequently promoted into my current job as development team manager, which I’ve been in for just over a year now. I now manage a team of 20 personal shoppers, which involves setting and monitoring performance goals, managing training and development and putting the employee engagement program into place within my team.

“The best thing about working at Ocado is the culture. Everyone’s so friendly and we have a really multicultural environment. We’re like one big family here and there’s a massive amount of support. My own career has shown how the company helps new employees develop to be the best they can be, and I’m sure I’ll be able to continue to develop with Ocado and progress higher up in the management team in the future.”
