Online retailer Ocado reports surge in sales of seventies foods

Online Supermarket Ocado has revealed that foods from the seventies are making a come-back as sales of retro classics from the disco decade soar. Favourites like Angel Delight, Chicken Kievs and even notoriously uncool Quiches are being added to more and more Ocado baskets as the seventies food revival spreads across the nation.

Like fashion, art and music, foodie trends evolve and celebrity chefs like Heston Blumenthal have tapped into our desire for nostalgia by bringing back seventies classics with a modern twist and sales of Heston’s Prawn Cocktail are up by a staggering 95% at Ocado. In many cases the original is still the best and even the humble Chicken Kiev which was banished in the eighties is finding its way back onto our plates with a 59% increase in sales compared to last year.

  • Chicken Kievs up by 59%
  • Soda stream up by 82.4%
  • Arctic Rolls up by 40.6%
  • Quiche up 19.9%
  • Heston's Prawn Cocktail up by 95.3%
  • Twiglets up by 11%
  • Angel Delight by up 5.1%

Jason Gissing, Ocado Co-Founder commented: “I was born in 1970 so I’m excited to see my childhood foods making a come-back in our digital age and holding their own alongside more modern staples like ready meals, organic veg boxes and sushi. The internet hadn't even been invented in the 70’s and shopping online for groceries would have been unthinkable 40 years ago. Now customers can order their Chicken Kievs with just a few clicks from Ocado and have them delivered to their kitchen table later that day without even having to leave the house. We’ve changed people’s lives and we’ll continue to do so for the next 40 years and beyond!”
