Sales of summer favourites soar in time for UK’s hottest weekend of 2013

Online retailer Ocado reports huge surge in sales for this week

Online supermarket Ocado saw sales of summer favourite’s rocket this week as temperatures are set to soar to highs of 30 degrees. BBQs, picnics and parties are on the menu with favourites such as Pimms up 86%, BBQ kebabs up 178% and family tubs of ice cream up 25%.

Sun protection products also saw a rise as sales of sun cream rose 252% and after sun was up by 102%.

Other heat wave hits included:

• Kids lollies up by 52%
• Hand-held ice cream up by 238%
• Burgers 151%
• Sausages up by 39%
• Heineken kegs up by 1400%
